Alleppey is one of the popular backwater tourist destinations of Kerala. The endless panorama of lush green paddy fields, swaying coconut trees, shimmering water and long canals around Alappuzha make an interesting setting for the town. Alappuzha is bordered by Pathanamthitta and Kottayam districts on east, Kollam district on south, Ernakulam district on north and the Arabian Sea on west. Alappuzha is now the hub for backwater tourism in Kerala. House boats locally called “Kettuvallam” are available on hire on a daily basis as well as for longer durations to take visitors on the old waterways. Chettikulangara Bharani temple is very famous in Kerala, as it is believed that the deity of the Bhagawathy temple has miraculous healing powers is also located.
